Be mentally and physically fit. You know you will like it.
Establishing a good health routine is easy enough but maintaining one can be difficult. During the Covid19 lockdown, many people prioritized their health and fitness which is impressive. With life going back ‘sort of’ to normal, attention to our health routine can be the first thing to go.
However, I do believe that now it is important more than ever to look after our well-being; that will not only boost our immunity but also ensure our mental health and physical fitness. Below are some thought starters on how you can keep control over your daily health.
Starting with the ‘fitness’ bottom of the pyramid, what you eat and drink!
Good nutrition is essential for maintaining your energy and overall health. Your body needs the right fuel.
Stay Hydrated! First thing first, Water. You should always remember to drink water throughout the day. Avoid sugary drinks and switch to better alternatives like electrolyte drinks or tea.
Control your daily calories! You don’t have to overcomplicate it, by reducing a few calories per day will bring you benefits in the long run; so, the key factor here is consistency. Just remember, it is always good to eat healthily, but there is nothing wrong with a few comfort foods when you need that treat.
Keep calm and Ommmmmm…
Meditation is a practice that has always been an overlooked method of improving well-being. There are thousands of studies that have shown that meditation can positively impact mental and physical health.
You can start with basic techniques. Just pick your favorite silent spot, close your eyes, focus your attention on your breath, and do not try to silence your mind… you cannot. Let the thoughts flow and bring your attention back to your breath.
It’s Bedtime, dear…
Getting adequate sleep is the absolute best thing you can do for yourself. Despite the fact that its biological purpose remains a mystery. Sleep affects almost every type of tissue and system in the body, from the brain, heart, lungs, metabolism, immune function, mood, and disease resistance.
Regardless if you are a Night Owl or an Early Bird, quantity, and quality of sleep are as essential to survival as food and water.
Move your body, your future self will thank you for that.
Being active does not have to be hard; however, most of us lack the motivation to create and sustain this habit. The best way to approach this is to create the reason “Why” you are doing it and setting measurable targets will create a sense of achievement and drive motivation. That will turn this habit into a lifestyle and not just a daily task.
It’s a mindset shift; thinking that we need the motivation to do the action where the action leads to motivation.
Turning habits into a lifestyle.
Creating a strong awareness of your mental and physical health is an ongoing task. It does take effort, but it offers so many rewards. Good health habits are a great way to start. So why not focus on your mind and body?
Focusing your energy on accomplishable health habits will not only have a positive impact on your well-being but will also help you control your stress levels and ensure longevity.
Don't worry, I am not a fitness influencer, personal trainer, or life coach. I am a husband, a dad, and in a 50 hours/week job. I just take care of myself and enjoy sharing my experience and this basic knowledge with others.
Until next time.
